Good afternoon my friends,
Today we’re talking about Brahmi Ghee. Brahmi is perhaps my favorite and most commonly used medicine. Brahmi is a nervine which means it t is calming, grounding, and soothing to the nervous system. It promotes clarity of mind, focus, memory, concentration, and deep rest. It improves sleep quality, power of attention, and invokes courage eliminating fear, anxiety, and restlessness. It’s no surprise why Dr. Frawley calls Brahmi an all-star in the Ayurvedic pharmacopeia.
Now, take this beautiful herb and mix it with the golden oil and you’ve got yourself a mind medicine in every sense of the word. Among the many incredible benefits of ghee, it is one of the few substances that effectively crosses the blood brain barrier. So you potentiate brahmi into a medium that effectively crosses the blood brain barrier and boom! You’ve got yourself an actual medicine to combat anxiety, depression, restlessness, and stress.
This is why we Ayurveda my friends. You’ll be long gone by the time conventional medicine even finds out about Brahmi ghee. 😉
The brahmi I’m referring to is Bacopa Monnieri, not Gotu Kola. Gotu kola is similar to brahmi however they are not the same. In a simple sense gotu kola isn’t as potent as brahmi is.
Brahmi Ghritam in Classical Ayurvedic Texts
The Charaka Samhita and Ashtanga Hridayam emphasize the use of Brahmi and medicated ghee preparations for enhancing mental clarity, promoting emotional stability, and rejuvenating the nervous system. Brahmi Ghritam combines these principles into a single classical formulation. Brahmi Ghritam is also recognized in classical formulations for its ability to support Ojas (the vital essence), which is essential for immunity, vitality, and emotional resilience.
One way to think of Brahmi Ghritam is that it helps "moisturize" the mind - clearing subtle blockages and supporting the free flow of mental energy and clarity. One reason it’s nourishing is that it clears mental "congestion" so deeper rejuvenation can occur.
